Blood on the Blade core rules include only the most common weapons found in the battlefield, like swords, axes and bows: the “exotic” category will instead cover some rare, unique or rather unusual weapons, that surely will make possible to create very special encounters.

Exotic Weapons introduce the concept of “Coloured Dice”, represented by the letter “C” in the Attack and Damage descriptions.
Coloured dices act a normal dices with the following additional rules:

  • The letter “C” in the Damage attribute always identifies the value of the coloured dice only. No doubles (or triples) are then possible in this case (while the coloured dice counts for any other damage multiplier purposes)
  • Normally the coloured dice result is also used to trigger some special effect (see the weapon description).

Example #1. an exotic weapon with Attack “C+D+1” and Damage=”C” gets the following rolls: Coloured dice=4, Standard Dice=4. The attack roll is 4+4+1=9; is the attack successful the damage is then 4 (no doubling).

Example #2. an exotic weapon with Attack “C+D+1” and Damage=”H” gets the following rolls: Coloured dice=4, Standard Dice=4. The attack roll is 4+4+1=9; is the attack successful the damage is then 8 (doubling for “H”).

Exotic Weapons have always special rules associated to them, so they add a little complexity to the rules, but this is normally a small price to pay to add a special flavour to the gaming sessions.
