Postcard games are the result of a personal experiment: I was interested in understanding how far a game could be “miniaturized” while still trying to create something interesting a title where the player had to make decisions, not just roll dice and hope for good luck. I don’t know if I succeeded in this challenge, I’ll leave that up to you to decide, but I can say that I have reached my all-time low in terms of space: the game fits on an A5 postcard, with one page for rules and historical micro-notes and the other dedicated to maps and tables. To play, you only need a handful of dice, so there are no counters to prepare.

Monte San Gabriele 1917

On September 4, 1917, Italian Arditi led a night attack against strong Austro-Hungarian positions on Mount San Gabriele. Their lightning action, based on infiltration tactics and assaults with daggers and hand grenades, was decisive in the subsequent crucial conquest of the summit. Without support from the bulk of the troops, they were forced to retreat, but their daring action demonstrated the effectiveness of assault troops.
